Jeremy Brett sets the Standard!!!
If you like the mystery genre, and would like to get the BEST of the BEST, then this is the ULTIMATE Collection!!! NO actor has done a better job BECOMING Sherlock Holmes, than Jeremy Brett. He is a joy to watch - and this collection allows you to see him bring this beloved and well-known character to life. True, other actors have done admirable jobs at portraying Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's illustrious detective - but NONE have equalled or surpassed Brett's ability. He IS Holmes!!! I cannot recommend this highly enough - words do NOT do him justice. Watch these and see - you will be AMAZED at his transformation. I've always enjoyed Sherlock Holmes' videos. Two years ago I was happy to acquire the entire Basil Rathbone collection on DVD. Then I saw an episode of Sherlock Holmes starring Jeremy Brett. That's when I decided I needed to expand my Holmes collection. BEST VIDEO DECISION I'VE EVER MADE! ***** This set is the entire series of Granada Holmes programs. Not only does it have the weekly shows originally aired in the 1980's & 1990's, it also includes the movies they aired during that time. ***** Enclosed in the package you'll find a pamphlet with an enjoyable synopsis of each story. Filmed predominantly on location, these tales are presented with Victorian English charm. (Quite the pleasant change from set-filmed presentations!) ***** Heads up - on the ... Sherlock Holmes fans, treat yourself to this box set
If you are a true Sherlock Holmes fan this is the box set for you. Each of the episodes is much more like a movie than a TV show episode. Unlike previous "quote" Sherlock Holmes movies and TV shows this series used REAL Sherlock Holmes stories written by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. They stick very close to the original stories and the settings are superb. They acting is flawless and the casting is perfect. This is my second set, my first one has been watched and borrowed so many times that the discs are showing signs of ware. Forget Basil Rathbone, Jeremy Brett "is" Sherlock Holmes.If you are a true Sherlock Holmes fan this is the box set for you. Each of the episodes is much more like a movie than a TV show episode. Best. Sherlock. Ever.
Jeremy Brett's portrayal of Sherlock Holmes is perhaps the one truest to the original A. C. Doyle books. We see Holmes as the brilliant (albeit drug using) detective assisted by an able Watson (as opposed to the buffoon shown in other Holmes productions). In terms of production, there are some obvious flaws in moving to electronic media. Motion is sometimes a bit jerky and sound quality could be better. Yet, still, the quality of acting, the accurate period costuming, and interesting stories make this by far the premier Holmes collection. Best Portrayal of Sherlock Holmes EVER--Jeremy Brett IS Sherlock Holmes!
I have waited 28 years to get this set of Holmes DVDs. JEREMY BRETT IS... SHERLOCK HOLMES!!! There is NO OTHER! I watched these on PBS with my Mom when I was 8-11 years old. We loved them & always hoped to see them agian. I also bought a set for my Mom for her Birthday. She won't let anybody touch them. She loves Jeremy Brett as Holmes. These are the best Holmes DVDs EVER!! Jeremy Brett is mesmerizing,he IS Sherlock Holmes. If you love Sherlock Holmes- this is a MUST HAVE!! Watch them & you will know exactly what I am talking about. These DVDs are Amazing!!! I have heard comments about being a little pricey. They ARE worth every dollar I paid! Trust me,I do NOT say that very often.
