A lovely movie featuring Cary Grant in one of his more inscrutable roles as an angel of mercy to the sick, recalling his work in THE BISHOP'S WIFE. PEOPLE WILL TALK focuses on Dr. Praetorius, a nontraditional doctor whose patients and medical students love him, while his success spurs the jealousy of fellow doctors, including teaching rival Shunderson. Content with his life, the doctor is thrown a curve ball when a beautiful but unmarried mother-to-be confirms her pregnancy at his clinic, then tries to shoot herself to avoid shaming her father. Taking unconventional healing a step farther, Praetorius marries her; their happiness is disrupted when Shunderson's mysterious past is brought into the light, perhaps to topple Praetorius's reputation and career. Weaving in the theme that doctors should treat the whole person, not only the disease, PEOPLE WILL TALK graces the pantheon of comic, romantic dramas; it is based on the play DR. PRAETORIUS, by Curt Goetz.

A must for the classic fans.
Amazing movie. Cary Grant must have loved this role, a character with INTEGRITY worth aspiring to. And I'll bet you never saw him break into such a huge and authentic smile! This is one of those movies that sticks to your ribs, mind, and heart while also managing to tickle your funny bone. It doesn't hurt that justice prevails in the end. Just get it if you like Cary Grant. You won't be disappointed.Amazing movie. Cary Grant must have loved this role, a character with INTEGRITY worth aspiring to. A beautiful movie starring Cary Grant & Jeanne Crain. He is a doctor who teaches, has his own medical clinic and believes that to cure the sick a doctor must treat more than just the body’s illness. He is the doctor with a heart & soul that every patient needs. Jeanne is Deborah Higgins, a young lady with a dilemma that seems insurmountable, especially for those times. She seeks help from Dr. Praetorius, who due to a real quandary, has no real choice but to use a slightly unprincipled means to save her from herself. Because of this her fears are allayed. This allows for the further continuation of their relationship to blossom. In the meantime the Doctor is being subjected to a scrutiny worthy of McCarthy, by a fellow professor, Elwell, played by Hume Cronyn, who in this role embodies the ... His inscrutable manner grates on Elwell, heightening his contempt for Dr. Praetorius, thus causing another avenue for his inquisition. Walter Slezak is wonderfully cast as Dr. Praetorius’ stalwart friend, Professor Barker.

This is a MUST HAVE for classic film or Cary Grant fans
This is one of my favorite movies (classics) of all time. Even my hubby, who loves action movies and stuff like LOTR; he loved it. It has Cary at a perfect time in his life. So handsome and fine and wonderful. He is a doctor (don't get me started, woohoo!) and a very sensative guy. He's not the typical CG character. Usually his movies are kid of slapstick or he's a guy who tricks a woman into loving him, or he's after the woman's money. In PWT he is a grownup, with a life. This woman falls for HIM (as it should be, right? :) and I can't give away a detail as it's so good from beginning to end. The side characters are so interesting as well. The situations, mature but not in an uncomfortable way. I would say this is not really for kids, not young ones at least. Unless you want ... This is one of my favorite movies (classics) of all time. Plays Great!
After tons of searching I was finally able to find this movie in DVD format. The quality was as stated, and although used, plays just like new. Thrilled to find this harder- to -find movie would be an understatement. Also, the DVD case is one of those sturdy, good quality ones, which is great for the added protection.

Easily makes my top 10 of all time
I am a HUGE fan of the nonconformist tale. People Will Talk celebrates the thought provoking INDIVIDUAL spirit that should be in all of us. Whenever I need inspiration or motivation, be it good times or bad, I find that Dr Praetorious has the cure. Enjoy and "Have a Candy"
