In BASIC INSTINCT 2, a sequel to the 1992 original, Sharon Stone resumes the role that first made her famous. Beautiful American author Catherine Tramell (Stone) is living in London when she is involved in a sexually charged car accident leading to the scandalous death of a famous British athlete. Raunchy and irreverent, Tramell likes to shock people with both her words and her actions. Dr. Michael Glass (David Morrissey), who is evaluating her for trial at the request of Det. Superintendent Roy Washburn (David Thewlis), is no exception. Just coming out of a divorce and facing the resurrection of an old situation that could ruin his career, Glass is slowly but surely sucked into Tramell's web when he takes her on as a private therapy client. Day by day Glass realizes that she has infiltrated more of his personal relationships, which also leads him to question why so many people in his circle are suffering questionable fates.Each time Glass is convinced that Tramell is guilty, she diverts suspicion in another direction. Does gossip magazine writer Adam Towers (Hugh Dancy) plan to reveal a deadly decision that Glass made in his past? Is Det. Washburn really the upstanding cop he appears to be? Is Glass's ex-wife, Denise (Indira Varma) trying to sabotage his career? Despite its inevitable fate as a critically reviled box-office flop, Basic Instinct 2 sure has a funny way of holding your attention. It's not just Sharon Stone's trash-talk and occasional nudity that keeps you watching, but also the way she gamely earns every cent of her $14 million paycheck, vamping like a real pro in her second outing as mystery novelist and alleged serial killer Catherine Tramell. Now living in London, Catherine sets her lethal sights on Michael Glass (David Morrissey), the control-freak psychiatrist assigned to evaluate her as a risk-addicted suspect in the "accidental" killing of a star soccer player. Turns out Catherine's just getting started (or is she?), and that's bad news for Glass's ex-wife, a tabloid journalist, and the ... Despite its inevitable fate as a critically reviled box-office flop, Basic Instinct 2 sure has a funny way of holding your attention. With plenty of sex, murder and salacious dialogue, BI2 is certainly never boring, especially with the morbid fascination of seeing the once formidable Stone torpedo her career in a sequel that took 14 years (and countless drafts of screenplays and at least one high-profile lawsuit) to bring to the screen. She's still impressively hot at age 47, prompting critic Roger Ebert to observe, "the Catherine Tramell role cannot be played well, but Sharon Stone can play it badly better than any other actress alive." So, while this ill-fated sequel falls just short of being a guilty pleasure (if only because Morrissey is no match for Michael Douglas in the 1992 original), it's enjoyably absurd and slickly produced, and the hot-tub scene is guaranteed to wear out the freeze-frame function on a lot of DVD players. For some viewers, that's reason enough for multiple viewings.

Am a Sharon Stone fan & I did not see this at the movies. I liked this movie, as I enjoyed the first Basic Instinct & was not disappointed with this one either. It had sex, intrigue, & was a great followup to the first Basic Instinct. It answered questions I had after viewing Basic Instinct I. Sharon Stone fans will definitely not be disappointed. Her co-star or the psychiatrist was also a good actor & definitely gave Stone a run for her money in keeping the chemistry & intrigue alive. Stone shows that even women over 40 can hold their own with younger actresses in the sex appeal department.Am a Sharon Stone fan & I did not see this at the movies. Not As Good As the First, but Still Worth Watching
Loved the first movie especially because of Michael Douglas, who has never gotten the accolades he deserves. Sharon Stone is great in both movies, but the story and male character in the sequel is a disappointment when compared with Michael Douglas. Still the movie is fun to watch.

It's certainly not as good as the original. The new story doesn't keep your attention as well as the first. It's worth watching once especially at this low price. When you get about 35, 40 minutes into the movie it starts to get more entertaining.

I've been a fan of Sharon Stone for years I thought Basic Instinct 2 was better than the first one it was unbelievable you never knew what was going to happen next who was going to die who was going to murder who Sharon Stone was so believable it was incredible all the actresses and actors in there were great it's just a movie you have to see to believe I can't describe it any further than that
