The Relic: The Next Evolution In Terror
This is a horror flick featuring Penelope Ann Miller, Tom Sizemore, Linda Hunt, and James Whitmore. I love this movie. It doesnt have the best of graphics, but want can you expect from a 1997 movie? In The Relic you come across museum workers who travel to other countries trying to track down the rare and unusual. One of the scientist come across a tribe and the story basically really starts there. He sends back a bunch of artifacts in boxes. This boxes are filled with leafs that seem to have some sort of eggs on them. Soon after the crates arrive weird cases of deaths are happening around the museum. No one is sure of what is happening they just no these are no ordinary murders, especially since they look like they have been done by some beast that only wants to eat the brain of its ... In the Chicago's natural museum they are having a grand opening of a new exhibit, ignoring the pleas to not open under such circumstances. This exhibit is all about superstitions, such as walking under ladders and breaking mirrors. During the opening they find out the real reasons for sending the leafs and what is actually causing the murders. It ends up being a beast that needs the hormones form the hypocamthus region of the brain to live and to basically evolve. So you have the main characters chasing the monster through the water sewage pipes under the museum while also trying to save all the people that had come to the opening of the exhibit. The monster is digitally put into this movie and later one actually is on fire. Like I said earlier the graphics arent that great but they actually arent completely horrible. I do believe this is a great movie none-the-less.

Good flick, just not as good as the book
Read the book first, and it was FANTASTIC! Was a bit worried from some of the reviews I read, but wanting to find out for myself, grabbed the movie on eBay (tried to get it from NetFlix, but it was no longer available there). Have to say I was pleasantly surprised. Of course Hollywood made some quite significant changes, but in my mind, they at least kept the flavor of the novel (unlike what they did to "The Robe" - completely messed up that novel!). If you've seen the move, but never read the book, don't worry about not encountering any surprises, there will be plenty. Also some very significant characters were changed or deleted in the movie. In addition, the novel takes place in New York not Chicago (which turns out to be a significant change). All in all, a movie I'm glad I ... Read the book first, and it was FANTASTIC! The Relic (dvd)
I finished reading the book and figured it would be neat to watch the movie that it was based on, so when i found it at such a good price i couldn't say no. Obviously you can tell the movie is almost a decade old, and while it leaves out alot of things from the book, the movie still was exciting enough to keep my attention all the way to the end. Tasteful horror flick!
Pretty decent horror/suspense flick especially if you realize beforehand that the movie is based on Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child's first novel in the Pendergast series. Strangely enough Pendergast doesn't even make an appearance!
