For the photographer who specializes in portraits and still life, the 105 mm Nikon DC-Nikkor is an ideal choice for a DC lens (defocus lens). Because this is a DC lens, the Nikon DC-Nikkor allows the photographer to choose how much emphasis the background or the foreground of a photo should have. This gives the photographer the ability to control which area in a photo should have a blurred effect.  Blurring images is way to make elements in a photo appear softer or coarser. This feature is in addition to the potential that is already contained in an f/2.0 aperture lens such as the Nikon DC-Nikkor.
