In this bizarre and ingenious Japanese CGI-animated series, an eccentric hobo, Mr. Stain, and his enormous alley-cat friend Palvan get involved in a series of outlandish, hilarious, and frequently surreal adventures centered on the junk-filled alley where they live. In the utterly unique world of MR. STAIN, a doll comes to life and insists on making Mr. Stain and Palvan dance over and over to a cassette tape; a makeshift robot dreams of becoming a bird; Mr. Stain discovers a portrait of a beautiful woman and becomes so enchanted by it that he refuses to move or eat; and a magic mitten helps guide a girl home. This DVD is pretty good. The storyline is about a man called Mr. Stain who lives on Junk Alley and in that alley there is a cat named Palvan, who, I guess you can call the supporting actor, also my favorite character. There are a number of things that happen in this alley and I think it's very cute, funny, and clever. An example, in one of the episodes, there is a magic crayon and notepad, and whatever is draw on there becomes reality. I won't tell you how, but Palvan the cat, ends up with no eyes. Mr. Stain had stuffed his eye sockets with two oranges but Palvan has a better idea. This is where the phrase "an eye for an eye" comes into play and it's so hilarious and clever. I loved it. One thing that I didn't like about it is that some of the episodes were a little too short and the ... This DVD is pretty good. Something else that I liked about this DVD, it's a Japanese Anime, but there's no dialogue so I didn't have to worry about reading the subtitles while watching the movie. The actions and the point of the movie is so clear that there is no dialogue needed to explain anything. If anybody is thinking of buying this DVD, see if you can get a preview somewhere before you buy it. I may have loved it but it would depend on individuals and their tastes.

Kind of messed-up, but that's what makes it fun!
This DVD set has the entire series. The episodes are about seven minutes long, except the final episode which is about 30 minutes. There is no talking (which initially made me think it was for kids.... but it definitely is not for kids), it is early computer animation (but still very good), and very strange. The main character, Mr. Stain, is a homeless man who lives on the street (how many animated shows do you know are about a vagrant). The other characters are: Palvan, an odd looking and very large cat who is Stain's friend; Rings, who looks like a lizard with a metal ring around it's neck; Squeezed Dog, a dog with an old, too tight collar, that causes him to look squeezed and wheeze; Masked Monkey, some furry creature with a paper bag over it's head, and a hole for one eye to look ... All the episodes have very unassuming names like "Egg" and "Magic Crayon", but these simplistic titles only refer to the very basic basis of the episode, and in no way give any clue as to what will actually happen. The episodes are equally hilarious and disturbing. It is at times goofy, surreal, and violent. In the "Magic Crayon" episode for instance (This episode was included as a preview of the series on one of the Fullmetal Alchemist DVDs, which is where I saw it first) starts innocently enough with Mr. Stain finding a set of seemingly ordinary crayons. Stain soon finds that these crayons make real whatever is drawn, things get a little out of hand between him and Palvan, there is an accident with one of the "magic" pictures, and suddenly Palvan has a black hole where his eyes once were. And this isn't the most disturbing or odd episode of the series. They are all pretty much like this one, in one way or another. I really like this series, and it was definitely worth the amount I paid on Ebay (it's worth the regular price too, but if you're too poor like me, try to find a cheaper copy). If you like oddly funny animation, I highly recommend this DVD.

Mr Stain in Junk alley is Great!
Mr.Stain in Junk Alley is Phenomenal. The folks behind its creation deserve many Kudos. I ran across a segment under extras in Desert Punk.

Strange but Fascinating
This is one of the strangest animes I have ever watched but I can't stop watching it. This is one that you have to watch and see for yourself since words can't describe it. Mr. Stain and Palvan (the cat) are anime's Abbott and Castello or Laurel and Hardy. If you can get for under $10, it's worth putting into your collection. Then you can try and figure out why you keep watching it!

This is seriously wierd, music is infectious. Some very good and original story lines, a bit of violence, but not bad.
