Nice Tribute to Washington - Wish it was a Dollar, not a Half
This 90% silver proof coin is a very nice tribute to President George Washington produced by the U.S. Mint. It has very nice bright mirror finishes on both sides. My only wish is that, to honor our first president, it was a full and not half dollar coin. That said, this specific coin did mark the beginning of the modern commemorative coin program which has provided many outstanding products, for investors, collectors, historians, and those who just enjoy things of beauty. The Mint offered the coin in both uncirculated and proof versions. This coin commemorates the 250th anniversary of Washington's birth. The obverse depicts General Washington on horseback, with the words "George Washington" and "250th Anniversary of Birth - 1982" around the edges, with "Liberty" off of his right elbow and the "s" (San Francisco) mint mark on the lower right side of the coin. The reverse features his home in Mount Vernon, Virginia, with a heraldic eagle below it. The words "United States of America" and ":In God We Trust" are across the top edge and "Half Dollar" across the bottom edge. These were the very first coins to be produced in 90% silver since the 1964 Kennedy half dollar. The U.S. Mint silver half dollar is held in an acrylic holder, and comes with a display case, protective box and a COA (Certificate of Authenticity). The proof coin mirror finish is quite nice. George Washington fans, historians and coin collectors should own this coin.

Cannot Be Beat For The Money
When I got into DSLR photography I could not, at the time, also afford a Nikon SB-600 flash with a camera and a couple of lenses, especially as I did not anticipate a flash being required very much of the time. I did some research and settled upon the Vivitar DF 383-NIK. I have been very pleased with the results. This is a good high capacity flash unit. I started using it with my D60 and am now using it with my D5100. The swivel head rotates in just about any conceivable position, making it usable under virtually any circumstance. Whether using it direct or bouncing, I have had ample light for my subject. I have not used it in slave mode. It has a built-in diffuser and white reflector that retract above the flash itself and are easy to get out and then slide back in when not in use. In some instances, however, I have found that an Opteka soft box works well. The quality of construction seems to be there. I have had no issues with anything falling off or coming apart, after two years of use. I have not really counted how many images I snap with the 4 AA batteries installed (regardless of how long it sits unused in its stand), but it is in the hundreds, so I am pleased with that. The various settings on the flash are relatively easy to set or change and the LCD provides a good contrast to be able to read what you did. However, most of the time it is used in TTL mode and it works like a dream, for me. Perhaps one day I will get a Nikon Speedlight, but not in the foreseeable future as this continues to serve me well. As much as I like Nikon products, I would recommend this unit to anyone who does not feel the need to invest three or more times the money for a Speedlight flash.

Great Tribute to a Great Man
While Benjamin Franklin did not serve as a U.S. president, he is remembered as one of the Republic's most well-known and respected Founding Fathers. Franklin was a statesman, philosopher, inventor, author, printer, and served as a postmaster. The 2006 Benjamin Franklin Founding Father Commemorative Silver Dollar is one of two that were produced to mark the 300th anniversary of his birth. The other was Scientist. This coin uses a likeness, on the obverse, very much familiar to those with an interest in American history. On the reverse is featured a 1776 Continental Currency dollar, as a tribute to Franklin's contributions to early U.S. coin and currency design. The 90% silver proof coin has a brilliant mirror finish on the obverse, where the reverse is more full of detailed engraving. Both Founding Father and Scientist are available in this Proof finish, as well as in Brilliant Uncirculated. The U.S. Mint commemorative proof includes the silver dollar encased in an acrylic holder, a well-designed presentation case, protective box and a COA (Certificate of Authenticity. As a commemorative and investment coin this is a great one to own.
