In addition to twelve of Clark's original compositions, BLAK & BLU also features a thirteenth song - a blistering cover of Little Johnny Taylor's (popularized by Albert Collins), "If You Love Me Like You Say / Third Stone from the Sun" (Jimi Hendrix) is actually a complete reworking of the song utilizing the Hendrix riff reinterpreted by Clark. The result is an extraordinary hybrid of the two ideas that breathes new fire to an old favorite.

Terrible songwriter
A great player................................................YES A better than average singer.........................YES A great songwriter..........................................NO He's one of the worse that I ever heard. I hope that his behavior is being monitored, so that they are keeping sharp objects out of his hands. In particular, pens and pencils! He really needs to team up with the guys who wrote for Robert Cray on the "Strong Persuader"/ "Don't Be Afraid of the Dark" sessions and get over the idea that he can write good songs because he CAN'T. One more dismal attempt like "Blak and Blu" and he'll be another, never was, never will be. A truly great disappointment of an album. An exciting journey with an energetic musical talent!
I've heard people say he's the next Jimmy Hendrix. I would prefer to have this individual be his own niche. Is he heavily influenced by the late guitarist? Sounds like it. Definitely has a handle on control of heavy feedback,distortion and alike,which I enjoy.What is also interesting is the originality of his style which surprised me in the diversity of his softer singing style. Gary Clark has a lot to offer,many influences can be heard in his music,and I believe the future will bring out a wide range of these influences in his songs. A very exciting time is ahead for all who wish to listen,experience,and let your ears take you into a new world crisscrossed with soul,rock,jazz and Mr. Clark's wide range of talent stirring the musically distorted pot.I've heard people say he's the next Jimmy Hendrix.
