"Death" is funny!
Death Becomes Her is a tale of greed, envy, revenge, vanity & the search for eternal youth. Meryl Streep stars as Madeline Ashton, an aging actress desperate to keep both her sagging body & career alive. One night, at her dismal off broadway play, she is visited by her childhood friend Helen Sharp, played by Goldie Hawn. Helen is rather frumpy looking at this stage in the film & will get worse. Helen introduces Madeline to her fiance, renowned plastic surgeon Dr Ernest Menville, played by Bruce Willis, who is already enthralled with Madeline. Madeline steals Ernest from Helen & that sends Helen on a path of self destruction. Move along 7 years. Helen becomes extremely fat, stops working (she was a writer) & is way behind on her bills. Madeline has aged considerably & has ruined Ernest. instead of a plastic surgeon, he is now an alcoholic corpse makeup artist to the deceased stars! Madeline receives an invitation to Helen's new book publishing party, though they haven't spoken in 14 years. Desperate not to look bad to her old friend, she rushes to her local spa, only to be told they can do nothing for her. The spa owner does give Madeline a card for a Lisle Von Rhoman who may be able to help. Madeline scoffs at it, rips it in 2, but accidentally drops it in her purse. She & Ernest go to the party & find that Helen has not only lost weight, but is absolutely gorgeous! She is young looking, svelte & alluring. Madeline tries to slip away, but Helen catches her. Distraught, Madeline goes to her young lover's house only to find him with a younger woman. Now, totally hysterical, she finds the card in her purse & decides to take a chance. She finds Lisle (Isabella Rossallini) to be a gorgeous young woman who admits to being 75. She offers Madeline a potion to keep her forever young. The unspecified price is very high & Madeline refuses until she is given a demonstration. She quickly writes a check & takes the potion. From this point, special effects take over the movie as we watch Madeline's rather humorous transformation to youth which includes a butt lift & rising boobs! Meanwhile, Helen is busy plotting Madeline's demise with Ernest. The whole thing blows up in their faces as both women end up killing each other only to find they are already dead! Helen has also taken the same potion! What transpires is an amusing romp as Helen & Madeline reconcile & then try to hold on to the one man who can keep their dead bodies looking good! There are tons of awesome special effects, some of which are indicated by the DVD's cover art. Effects fans will find this all very cool! This is not a kid's movie by any stretch though as it features many adult situations & language. Plus Rossellini is half naked throughout! (true fans who watch the credits will see "JAG" & "Army Wives" star Catherine Bell listed as Rossellini's body double!) The film also features many cool deceased star cameos during a party sequence where Elvis, James Dean, Marilyn Monroe & others are shown, a few of Lisle's customers! There are other cameos as well. Male model Fabio shows up as one of Lisle's body guards & Sidney Pollack makes an appearance as an ER doctor. This film is directed by acclaimed action director Robert Zemeckis who does a good job of mixing humor & action with a myriad of special effects! This is quite a ride!

Totally Entertaining!
Very Entertaining! Meryl Streep as a "has been" broadway singer. Goldie Hawn as a popular author. Bruce Willis is great as Goldie's husband...for awhile until Meryl Steals him away. Meryl and Goldie's characters discover a secret place where only the "stars" and "famous people" go to keep young and beautiful. No, its not plastic surgery (Willis actually plays a plastic surgeon, this is why the girls really married him) its the "fountain of youth" everything seems grand until the girls discover the nasty side effects of this potion..... crazy characters, sort of a dark comedy. worth watching...worth watching again.Very Entertaining! great movie great writing
I engage in clean entertainment. This is a move that you can sit down with family and not find yourself in a situation of discomfort because of the events before you. It is funny, spooky, and made in a time when good writing was valued. Please treat yourself to some pop corn and this movie. You'll just love it.

Where is the wide screen?
I remember when the film came out. So much press about the special effects in the film. And, what does Universal do? Makes the film ONLY in full screen? Does NOT do justice to the film. The film itself is entertaining. Meryl & Goldie do good jobs with their characters. Willis, did NOT need him in here. I think he was miscast. Going back to the special effects, they were good & do well in standing up to the test of time. No good extras on this, just standard cast information. NOTHING on the actors or the special effects, nothing. I hope Universal rereleases the film IN THE NEEDED WIDE SCREEN FORMAT.I remember when the film came out.
