In Baldur's Gate II: Shadows of Amn, an evil mage has locked you in a dungeon cell with a few of your friends nearby. Explosions and sounds of intense fighting can be heard in the distance as some unknown battle rages. With no clue as to where you are, escape is paramount. Obviously, certain factions deem you a threat and you must discover why.<br><br>The game, based on the Advanced Dungeons & Dragons gaming system, accommodates both solo and multiplayer action (up to six players via the Internet). Hand-designed backgrounds set the stage for the fantasy world and perspective is through an isometric viewpoint. Though otherwise played in real-time, battles can be paused for issuance of individual party actions through a turn-based system that allows you to plan tactical movements and change weapons.<br><br>In traditional role-playing fashion, you must create your characters before the game begins and select or modify their attributes. During gameplay, you gather information through the use of dialogue trees with NPCs and fight when necessary. Eleven new playable NPCs are featured in addition to five from the original game (Imoen, Jaheira, Minsc, Edwin and Viconia). As in the original Baldur's Gate, weapons, armor, spells and a myriad of items are available through purchase, discovery or booty from downed opponents. Character experience caps are set at 2,950,000 points.<br><br>The game introduces new monsters including trolls, umber hulks, vampires, werewolves, beholders, rakshasas, golems, shadows, mind flayers and three types of dragons (black, red and silver). The interface is point-and-click with a full complement of customizable hot keys available for in-game action as well, including a full-screen option that hides the interface. Journal, map, inventory, character record, mage spell, priest spell and option screens are similar to the original with the added option to create custom journal entries.<br><br>In multiplayer mode, you can chat with other players, import and export your own characters or create new ones to join existing games. Gameplay in multiplayer is the same as single-player mode except the six characters are controlled independently by up to six human participants.

    This is a great game.

    This is an early RPG, so a super fast PC is not required. The game has a great plot with more than one twist along the way. There are quite a few characters that want to join your party but will leave if you do not cater to there characters alignment. You start the game trapped in a dungeon and are released from a cage by one of your companions. You find some weapons in a room to begin the quest with along with a key to release another of your companions. Your fourth companion is a beserker so you just have to aggravate him to get him to break out of his cell. The first level isn't huge but is still interesting. Time for a twist. After you find your way out of the dungeon, you come face to face with your captor. Your companion that released you begins an attack on the captor using magic. ...

    Best RPG!!

    This is easily the best game i have ever played. You can rank a game in many ways, I give this game maximum points in every single category. Voice Acting: Probably the games strongest area was it's character development giving the game an extra dimension of realism and gravity, integral to this was the awesome voice acting which was/is the best I have ever known, this game showed that voice acting in computer games can be incredibly powerful, the actors who played the characters are real pro's. Also in this category is dialogue, which is equally incredible, occasionally I can still here a reedy voice in my head saying...."you should not have come to this place", unforgettable.     Baldur's Gate II: Shadows of Amn (PC Games, 2000)

    What an over rated game. think of how fun a game would be that you have to uninstall then reinstall every time you play, also, attacking enemies rarely works, spells dont work, picking up stuff sometimes works sometimes doesn&apos;t, and think of how fun it is dying over and over again. the game is non linear, but most of the time it is impossible to find anything. The dialogue is decent, but overall it feels as if you are not in the D &amp; d universe. Gameplay is less exciting than diablo, dark alliance and virtually all other similar games. I hate all the reviews online saying that this is the best game ever, I feel i was ripped.
