Good Mobo with quirks
I was able to install pretty much everything in an easy first pass and booted to a generalized Windows install without issue. A few days later however, I notice it was taking longer to boot and became so slow that I could barely boot into safe mode. I read up on how the SSD caching could cause issues so I reconnected my SSD's to the regular 6 gb/s SATA ports instead of the SSD caching ports and everything ran fine. Another minor issue is the fact that AI suite mixes up the 12V and 3V rail voltages readings and says the 12v is 3v and vice versa. Just have to switch off monitoring in the thermal radar in AI suite to stop the notifications (or uninstall AI suite). Average board, nothing special with a large variety of compatibility issues
This motherboard is not nearly as good as it looks and it has a ton of issues if one would really like to go truly extreme on it(I7 3960x/4960x and 32GB+ of RAM). It's major drawback is the automatic down clocking of the Extreme processor,if multipliers like 40X or higher are used it will default to 3.6GHz from 4GHz+ even with disabled C-states and thermal monitoring under custom made water cooling and that with the finest kit of Ripjaws 32GB 2133 memory. The VRM runs very hot and this is probably a major cause of failure,many experienced users reported numerous failures (SATA,USB,POWER VRM,NIC,SOUND)within a year time period without even overclocking. It is definitely not good for a pro overclocker or heavy gamer,some will not clock over 4.5GHz and I have seen stability issues ... This is not just this particular board but the whole Sabertooth lineup with the notable Z77 exception. All newer versions even though have description of better stability actually remove overclocking options and make ASUS boards less stable. The ASUS being said better than other companies is still evil. Their Tech support has a vast majority of people answering the phone just giving standard issued answers.No training whatsoever in troubleshooting hence a nightmare even for an experienced user.However if you own a ROG Rampage Extreme motherboard and you know Raja you will be safer with support and will feel better also. This is a tough cookie to swallow new for a 330$ price tag,better to get a Rampage IV Extreme used instead,since running 64GB is almost impossible on this Sabertooth X79 model.Also this is no good board to try to place it often in sleep mode when overclocked since it will simply not power up with manually set speeds over 4.4GHz+. I will not recommend you to buy it at a price over 250,or you will surely experience some serious disappointments. Because it isn't what it looks on paper I will rate it with an expert score of 70.

I was really glad there is someone out there that is making these bios chips. My machine is five or six years old now and I was able to get a chip with the latest bios update on it. Without it I would just have an i7 carcass that wouldn't even boot. So I'm thrilled. The whole process from ordering to delivery worked too. I'm thinking about buying a backup just because it's inexpensive and the process for updating the BIOS on my system has changed and is causing problems for me.I was really glad there is someone out there that is making these bios chips. Great MOBO buy it
I brought this as an upgrade and replacement for my X56 sabertooth. I went for the automatic overclocking capabilities just set the parameters that you want and the board does the rest and if the board become unstable, it can be reset with out much hassle. I am not the overclocking type but I like the idea that I can boost the system up just that much. It can be made to operate quietly by optimizing various fan speeds via the UEFI BIOS and the software that can be downloaded from Asus website, which I like very much. When it came to bang for the buck this board was the right one for me. I am always some what concern about buying a new board as opposed to a used one. You can buy a new board sealed from manufactures and it is DOA or it arrives with problems needing RMA, which is just not a ... I brought this as an upgrade and replacement for my X56 sabertooth. So far the this board has not cause me any trouble and it is usually on 24/7. To-date I have purchased two with out any issues. So as long a you get a good working board you will have a MOBO with no regrets.

Worth EVERY penny
This board is worth every single penny if you can get your hands on it. The board comes with a 5 year warranty, which even though it was first released in 2011, should give anyone who buys it enough time to have a system for a few years. It has more than enough usb and sata ports, not to mention the ram slots as well. The bios is extremely friendly. I can not say enough about this board.
