One of the best bands of their time.

There's a certain amount of there being a difference between 'gothic' and 'goth' music, with Type O Negative being frequently evoked as a large example of the latter. 'Gothic' would be characterized by the romantic, Victorian image that many people associate with the term, epitomized by the sort of thing you'd see in Cradle Of Filth's aesthetic, or some other band like Theatres Des Vampires. But 'goth' seems to be a term more frequently associated with what goth was instead of what it has recently become: an extension of punk focused on darkness, depression, and some level of wry romanticism. Type O Negative embodies that New York Goth flavor above any other band I've heard.
