A bit frustrating but still collectible!
1 personnes sur 1 ont jugé cet avis utile. The Hiawatha will truly go down in history as the most desirable and frustrating train to collect. When first introduced in the 30s it was an almost failure to run. The engine could hardly pull the heavy cars and transformers hardly could handle it. Later on they made better ones but the set was then discontinued. Not only did you have to lay out big dollars for the train itself, you had to run it on 072 track. I would guess back then dad went back to the store when he and Jr. got frustrated trying to get the thing to go around the massive space of track. I would guess this is why you don't see many operating originals. depression dollars were not what you want to spend on this kind of performance! Now for the one I bought. The wheels slip continuously and the thing goes half what it can. Taking off an extra car helps some. Also the wheels on the tender screech and sqweeking comes from some of the car wheels. This set sold originally for 1100.00 in the 80s. One can be had for about half. I was able to get one for this. Still on a higher note I still enjoy adding this to my collection. It still represents tremendous quality and also the guts it took to first make and remake a very beautiful Classic passenger train many wished to ride. Other than the few annoying things mentioned that can easily be corrected, it makes a top notch display piece that looks great in a collection!

Lokar rectangle type boot.
1 personnes sur 1 ont jugé cet avis utile. Boot was easy install. Just follow instructions to the letter. Also if you can use small c clamps Before you drill and I used masking tape on outside of rectangle to center it. Start one end of screws (4) do not tighten. Then stretch boot on other end. Do same with 4 more screws then start remaining. You can then remove and glue boot to plate. Let dry THEN TRIM. This was easy this way and looks great!

32 grill and shell
Just received this and yes it does have a problem fitting. One end is a bit out of shape. Probably due to handling in factory. Nothing serious but just a nuisance. Just have to reshape a little. Otherwise great front grill and shell!
