New Life in an Old Laptop

The W510 was purchased to run Ubuntu on the go and it works great. There is a lot of support for the ThinkPad line in the Linux community and, while there were a few minor bugs to work through related to the brightness control and the display driver, it was a relatively painless setup. Having worked on countless laptops over the years, I have always found the ThinkPads to be well-designed, durable, parts plentiful, and easy to service (for a laptop). With most of the second-hand ThinkPad market being from the corporate environment, most examples are likely to be well-maintained.

Good performance for the money

We used this combo in a Rustler-based build and are satisfied with the results. Out of the box the motor cables did not fit properly into the ESC, which shows poor quality control on Castle's part. Fortunately, that was the only hiccup. With the motor and ESC running on a 2S LiPo, speed was phenomenal. The optional Castle Link is worth the extra $25 to customize the ESC to your preferences. We have experienced minor heat issues on a 3S and are considering a metal motor mount to help cooling. This combo is recommended without hesitation.
