A great camera!

This camera takes great pictures in situations that confound or confuse lesser compact cameras. In auto mode, it does most of the decision making adjustments and even takes out the "shake" when you snap the shutter. However, you can put it in any of the standard SLR modes to enhance your creativity. The ability to take great live video places this camera ahead of many other cameras. There are some deficiencies. The limited zoom poses a problem when you need to stand off from the subject. The CD500 also is a little more difficult to load, in that the discs must be formatted and finalized before they can be viewed on a computer. The size is a plus and a minus. If you like a really small camera, this may not be for you. However, the CD500 does fit in your hand naturally, especially if you are used to the SLR film cameras. The quality of the pictures is spectacular. The flash and focus can be used in a completely dark room, thanks to the "sonnar" laser range feature. This is not a toy, but a serious camera. However, it can be used by almost anyone, if they read the instructions. Today's prices make this a great value.
