Long vs mid
The brake design is sleek. Installation was a breeze - mostly. Operation is great.
Qualifications - I have an old road bike. I bought these in hopes they would be an easy replacement for the ones on the bike. I had to drill out the hole in the fork very slightly to get the barrel to seat. Once situated the brakes reached the 27" rim with some reach to spare. Enough to reach a 700c wheel.
Installation of the rear did not lead to a satisfactory result on my frame (a Schwinn Traveler). This was because the 57mm reach was insufficient to reach the 27" wheel. I believe this is not the case for all old frame road bikes. So although these are referred to as long reach they really are, at least in my case, mid reach. Since Shimano does not make a caliper brake with more than a 57mm reach I had to buy a Tektro rear brake. Not a bad alternative.
