Read this Practical Astronomy Series Book with Pad & Pen in Hand.
This is the fourth printed text for me. This one far surpasses the other three in terms of practical information. This book was written for the beginner in backyard astrophotography who is versed in the terms used in this hobby. After the background information in the first couple of chapters, details are presented that should be read several times and written down. This book will improve your methodology and results if you follow the advice given. Even for persons with advanced equipment and methods, the basic methods of using light weight equipment will reinforce, or correct, current habits.
