Some hard work but the results speak for them selves.
If you want a great place to start with a balun for HF these work great, I have had problems with so called commercial antenna baluns poor quality, poor performance or just a plan waste of time.
Yep there is more work involved making a balun but the rewards speak for them selves,
better signal reports
better RX signal to noise
better common mode rejection.
The cons
having to invent an enclosure
having to wind the wire on the core.
First picture insertion loss, 2 back to back baluns one 1:1 trifilar wound and the other GUANELLA 1:1 on same core types about 0.8db insertions loss ~0.4db each, more testing.
Second picture 2 commercial baluns back to back, not all baluns are equal.
