A Must Have In Any Builder's Library

This is an extremely well written book. One of the better boatbuilding books in the world. The author is a good explainer who uses plain language. I've built a few of boats, so I know some things. I learned more! I am using the techniques in this book on the current project of my own design.

One Of My Favorite Tools

I see Swanson no longer makes these, and I hear some reports that this square can give inaccurate angles. Some reviewers even said the numbers are painted on. Well, too bad they don't make them any more because these are cool. Folded up, you can fit this bigger square in your nail bags. The accuracy on mine is perfect. The feel of the clicks into place are stiff and definite. And the numbers on mine are painted into incised metal. The way the aluminum handle balances in your hand makes this square quick flip around and slap right into place. The fine edge of the scale is great as a guide to mark lines -- unlike a speed square that you probably already have with its bumpy edges. This is not a replacement for that, but it sure is great for production work when you need to mark and repeat common angles fast and as a general purpose square alone
