Toshiba Combo DVD-R and TiVo Works great!!!
2 personnes sur 2 ont jugé cet avis utile. We have Verizon FiOs TV/Phone/Internet service, with the standard Motorola cable box connected to our old Panasonic 27" Tau flat screen (CRT, not LCD) TV, and I didn't want to pay extra to get the DVR box, but I wanted something a little more user-friendly and modern to record with besides our old VCR. At such time as our old TV conks out and I have to buy an HD TV I will, and upgrade to the HD FiOs with DVR. In the meantime, this Toshiba RS-TX20 allows us to get free TiVo basic service, with 3 days of program guide information, which is plenty for our needs. If you want all the bells and whistles, you can still subscribe to the Tivo Plus service. Also, if we record something and want to save it long-term without filling up the 120GB hard drive, we can burn it to DVD and delete it from the hard drive. The RS-TX20 has a serial cable that connects to the Motorola cable box allowing you to tune it with the Toshiba remote (you can still use the Verizon remote to access Widgets, Video On Demand, etc.) Unfortunately, you can't watch one channel while recording another, but that's not a deal breaker for me. The hard drive only holds like 36 hours of video in high quality mode, but if you don't think that's enough you can upgrade to a larger IDE (not SATA) hard drive if you're comfortable taking the old drive out of the TiVo (easy to remove), connecting it to your home computer and saving the drive image to your computer's C drive, then copying that image to the new drive before installing it in the TiVo. You can also buy replacement drives pre-formatted on the internet. Of course, if you have an HDTV this unit won't help you because it doesn't handle HD signals in or out (no HDMI connection) but there are other TiVo models out there that do. Anyway, I think the RS-TX20 is a perfect SD DVR/DVD-R combo for our needs, and we got a great deal on this pre-owned unit at right around $100 with local pickup.

Genuine Canon Cartridges- Can't Go Wrong
I've been using Canon inkjet printers for over 10 years, and during that time I've almost always used genuine Canon ink cartridges. The few times I've tried generic ink have almost all ended in clogged print heads or replacement of the printer. Canon ink cartridges are reliable, haven't found one that wouldn't work regardless of how old it was (as long as the cartridge was still sealed), and you can get great deals on them here on eBay. You can save 40-50% or more off retail store prices with a little effort. Most other printer manufacturers have adopted Canon's design with individual cartridges for each color, so you only replace the color that is out of ink, rather than throwing away ink because one color in a 3-color cartridge runs out. But Canon's been using it ever since the BJC-600 printer some 14 years ago. Plus, I like the fact that these cartridges are transparent, so you can see exactly how much ink is left and use them until the tank is nearly empty. I would definitely recommend to anyone who has just purchased a Canon printer, to buy genuine Canon cartridges here on eBay!

So far, great coffeemaker... Time will tell.
4 personnes sur 4 ont jugé cet avis utile. I wanted to replace my old Bunn D8B which worked OK, but is like leaving a 100 watt light bulb on all the time if you want coffee fast. It had no timer so you just added water when you're ready to brew a new pot. I wanted a coffeemaker with a timer because I figure it will use less electricity since it's not on all the time. I bought this coffeemaker after doing some searching for online reviews of standard coffeemakers. The Cuisinart DCC-1200 was in the top 3-5 depending on which review I looked at, and I found it to be widely available, as opposed to some of the highest rated models. I also found that there were quite a few for sale on eBay. Being an extremely frugal person who is the sole coffee drinker in my home, I like the reusable filter and 1-4 cup setting, and Brew Pause feature so I can go ahead and get a cup as soon as there's enough coffee in the carafe to pour. I noticed that the average selling price was around $50-$60 but with patience I was able to purchase a new customer return unit for around $34 total including shipping. It may have been a wedding gift returned or something like that, I don't think it had ever been used. The warranty card was still in the box so I registered the coffeemaker at cuisinart.com. We have fairly hard water where I live, so I also like the fact that it has a water filter to get rid of some of the calcium, and the cleaning indicator light to let you know it's time to give the coffeemaker a tune-up. I will be experimenting with different brands of coffee to see what I like best, the W**M**t brand premium coffee I'm using now leaves a little residue in the bottom of the last cup, but they said that might happen and suggest using paper filters if it is a problem. The clock and brew timer are easy to program, and you can program the shutoff timer so you can't leave it on by accident. It also has a beep to let you know the coffee's ready :). So far, I love it. I know from my research that some of these coffeemakers had problems, hopefully Cuisinart has them all ironed out... we'll see. Of course, I bet they've made a million of them by now, so the number of defects may be small. Anyway, I am glad I got mine for half the price of the one on the shelf at Macy's, and I'll enjoy it and hope and pray it lasts a long time. Plus, it does have a 3 year limited warranty (box it up and send it to them with $10 and they send you a replacement). If I have any problems, I'll definitely update this review.
