Xbox NGB - Back in Black
I bought Ninja Gaiden Black the 2nd week it was out. I already had the other version and bought this one to see how much they added and I heard they fixed the minor camera problems that were present in the first one. I was impressed by what they did to make Ninja Gaiden Black. All the downloaded content I got from Xbox Live for the original version of NG was all on there predownloaded and built into the game. It even included other content you couldnt even download for the original NG. They also did fix the minor camera problems from the original, make the camera much smoother, easier to control, and the camera doesnt go through walls in the cave chapter (did this once in a while in the original). The game also had harder difficulties that added more and different enemies to fight, not just making the few in the game harder. The only bad thing I could find about this game is the fact that when you get all 50 golden scarabs you dont get the 3 NES Ninja Gaiden games, just the old arcade version. This was kind of a big disappointment but oh well, the other content they added made up for it for the most part.

Gears of War
Gears of War is a high energy, well detailed sci fi shooter set in a dismal future. You are a muscular, well trained soldier wearing pounds of gear, armor and weapons - and it'll barely be enough to keep you alive. This game is compared frequently to Halo, but if Halo is the lighthearted ease of Star Wars, Gears of War is the non-stop assault and clinging to life of Alien. You're not jumping around like a kangaroo here, blasting at foes. You are heavily laden, crouching behind anything you can find to shield you, trying your best to stay alive for five more minutes. You have to work strategically with your fellow soldiers to climb forward every inch. The graphics in Gears of War are very impressive. The game is done in a palatte of browns, greys and reds. The dismal skies above, the swarms of black birds, the dented and dingy equipment - this is a world on the verge of despair. Enemies don't stand out with brightly colored costumes. You have to really pay attention to know where they are and to take them out. The sounds really help drive home the urgency of your mission. Voices cry out on all sides for help. The hammering of the machine guns and rapid fire weapons ring in your ears. The soundtrack is pounding and epic. If anything this is all TOO pounding - after playing this for weeks, I really can get a headache :) I'd turn it down, but then I wouldn't be able to tell where the enemies were sniping me from sometimes. The storyline really helps involve you in what is going on. It's like being at the center of a high power action movie. There are decisions you can make along the way to help guide the story. I really enjoy the "fight for every inch of soil" way it has you feel like you are involved in a real challenge. It might seem TOO challenging for some new gamers. Stick with it - it's well worth it. I do wish, with all of their emphasis on taking cover and being cautious - that you could CROUCH. I understand not being able to jump - you're wearing hundreds of pounds of gear! However, you can crouch behind cover. Why can't you crouch when you're not near cover, to lower your profile a bit? I think that would help out in some situations. Still, that's a minor complaint for a fantastic game. If you're a mature gamer (there's a fair amount of blood here) that enjoys shooters, definitely pick this one up!

Good game, but not as fun as the original. Heres why...
A lot of people loved the classic N64 version of Perfect Dark. It had everything you would ever want in an FPS. Simple easy to use controls, used the same engine as Goldeneye which was also a highly played and loved game, had a good sci-fi story, interesting weapons, a cute girl, and had amazing multiplayer. Perfect Dark Zero, as I understand, was made by the same company but a different team. You are still Joanna Dark, still good looking, still a FPS, and still blasting away at enemies like there is no tomorrow. However, Perfect Dark Zero had controls that were hard to get use to, even for expert FPS players. The controls were down right slow and annoying. Even with the sensitivity all the way up, you just can't seem to aim right. The game tried to use some sort of progressive camera that got faster the more you held the stick in that direction. This tries to mimic real life, as you can turn at full speed at first. Interesting concept, but fails for gaming. It can be done right, because it has been done before and worked real well, but you don't speed up fast enough. It doesn't take 3 full seconds to turn full speed in real life, but in PDZ it does. In single player it isn't a big deal since the AI is slow, but in mutli-player it is hell since players who played this game for a year finally got use to it. The AI in the game is just stupid. Remember how enemies would run up to you, stand there, and shoot in N64? It was fun then, because the console couldn't handle good AI so it was normal to see. However, since PS2 and Xbox(1) it all ended. We don't see that anymore, but in PDZ we did. Its nice they tried to get the PD feel from the N64 back, but when it comes to AI the game needed to improve. Graphics in this game are one of the only amazing aspects of this title. It was a launch title for the 360 and already had the top graphics for the system for months to come. It is pure eye candy. Amazing realistic graphics with a shiny comic like feel. Characters were decently detailed, but when it came to weapons and environments the game really showed its crisp artistic style. Environments are huge and fun to explore. The buildings are well detailed with shader effects (gives textures depth) and high polygon counts. Lighting is moderate, but the bad areas dont show unless you really look and find a spot that wasn't lit well. The Jungle level is so detailed it reminded me of the tech demo for Crysis, and for those who have seen that game you know thats a HUGE compliment. It looked just as good, no joke, only difference is trees don't take damage and there isn't grass. But all the flowers, bushes, trees, and other foliage is so detailed you'll cry. I didn't play this game on a standard definition TV, but in HD the game looks incredible. Since you can get this game every cheap now I highly recommend picking it up if you have Xbox Live and/or an HD-TV. The game play isn't that good for single player, but after playing it for a little bit you don't notice the bad side as much. I still play this game once in a while, and I don't regret throwing it in my system when I do.
