Canon EVF-DC1 Review

I recently received a Canon G3X camera as a Christmas present. It's excellent but it does NOT include an electronic view finder (EVF) as a standard feature. Because this camera is a superzoom (i.e. can zoom out to 600mm), an EVF is not just desirable, its a "must have" item for use at long focal lengths. The Canon EVF-DC1 is certainly not an inexpensive add-on but it is a high quality accessory that will definitely assist anyone using this camera.

Simply An Excellent Scanner...

I’ve batched scanned about 11,000 35mm slides so far (15,000 more to go) and the results have been excellent. Occasionally, mine will simply stop in the middle of a batch. This requires a reboot of my PC as the SilverFast Ai Studio 8.8 software can’t be restarted until a reboot is done. However, the failure isn’t with the scanner; it’s with the scanning software or more accurately how it interacts with other running software (Windows 10 apps). To be clear, I think that the SilverFast software is excellent. It is absolutely the best available scanning software and well worth the $500. However, it doesn’t seem to like other programs running at the same time. So, after rebooting I only start the SilverFast software and then perform the scans. This seems to significantly enhance stability issues. Also, temporarily turning off background anti-virus software also helps. Once you “make friends” with the software and get the settings dialed in you’ll like what gets delivered by the PS5000. My hobby is aviation photography and I’m very picky about the results. I have no complaints whatsoever. So my recommendation would be getting the SilverFast Ai Studio 8.8software and a Pacific Image PowerSlide 5000 (or a PowerSlide X scanner). I think you’ll be very pleased with the scans.

International Air Power Review...simply excellent!

The International Air Power Review series is simply excellent...great text and ample photos. I would recommend this series to anyone with a serious interest in military aviation.
