Cracked First Gen iPhones
First Gen iPhones are expensive to repair. Unless you are willing to toss money down the drain, don't buy a cracked one thinking you can fix it when it becomes "too cracked". The repair of the glass involves replacing the unit behind it if done properly. Look to spend a minimum of $150 on that.
The other possibility is to attempt a repair from the front. One guy did this on and wrote about it on an iPhone forum..use google to find the guy who replaced the glass with Plexiglas and you will probably luck upon it. The problem with doing this boils down to - you mess it up and you can toss the phone.
Apple built in quick obsolescence in these phones! There fun, but too expensive considering how fragile they really are.

Life Saver for my old fridge!
I was so happy to find these at a reasonable price. I just hope I remember where I stashed the extras!
