Great lens, but not a "macro-dream-lens"
1 personnes sur 1 ont jugé cet avis utile. I am a macro shooter, who sampled a LOT of macro lenses, more than 40-50 for sure. Sigma 150/2.8 got good reviews so I decided it's time for me to get one. In short, I am quite impressed with: 1. its build (very good build indeed) and feel, the lens feels very nicely in your hand. 2. 150mm is very good FL for macro (for portraits too), 180mm/200mm is too long, you might need a tripod to compensate for handshake, 60mm-105mm is quite short, you often find yourself sticking the lens into an insect to get minimal FD and max. magnification. 3. f/2.8 fast aperture is great too, the picture is bright which is very handy for manual focusing (often used on macro shoot). 4. this lens is VERY sharp wide open , I repeat VERY sharp! 5. Good contrast and color saturation, very pleasing bokeh too.
Now to the con's.:
1. Slow focusing mechanism, forget about fast tracking here. The lens does have a handy FL switch dividing the focal length into two parts, but the servo motor is still too slow for a fast lens like this one, unfortunately. 2. The lens is sharp wide open, but surprisingly (my sample at least) is NOT very sharp at f/20 and up. It's sharp relatively, but NOT as sharp as Nikon/Canon macro glass or Tamron's legendary 90/2.8. 3. Somewhat "uncertain" AF, it often "hunts" too much for a f/2.8 lens even in good lighting conditions.
Overall, the 150/2.8 is a great lens , I do recommend it. BUT if you need the extreme sharpness for macro photography, look for lenses like Nikon 105/2.8 or 200/4.

Perfect portrait lens
4 personnes sur 4 ont jugé cet avis utile. I think it's good this lens is not an "L" one. Guess why? because it makes it much less expensive! :)
Despite it's modest price this one performs extremely well. Superb sharpness, narrow DOF with incrediblt pleasing bokeh, wonderful colors, compact, lightweight, very fast focusing! Not enought? OK, it's FAST! Only f/2.0!
Seriously, guys, give it a try, you'll love it!

awesome.
by far this movie is the TOP OF THE LINE in animation league.
The actors (human) play the secondary role, and it's ok, because you're swamped with incredibly realistic animated characters from the very start of action.
And it's packed with action up to the end (happy of course :)).
So if your a big fan of Matrix/Serenity/Final Fantasy type of movies, you're destined to LOVE the AVATAR !
Buy it!
