not really cost effective
this filter was easy to care for the first several months but even with frequent washing, the mineral build up would not dissolve even after soaking for several days. It became very stiff and wouldn't absorb the water for efficient operation of the humidifier... it probably helped me save the cost of maybe four filters so not truly cost effective.

Better than I'd imagined
LOVE, LOVE, LOVE IT ! ! ! Even my teenage twin nieces who bought the larger version thinks it's perfect for me!!! The best part is being able to carry it hands free and just adore the soft feel. If this mini came in another color I'd buy it too!
