Fats Theus - Black Out (& Grant Green) [New CD] Blu-Spec CD, Japan - Import
    18 janv. 2019
    An unknown gem
I purchased this title mainly because of Grant Green and because it was a very early CTI release. I had no particular expectations and was pleasantly surprised. This album is difficult to categorize (and I really dislike genre labels anyway), but it certainly has strong rhythm and blues influences. More so than jazz I would say. And even though it sounds of it's time (in a real good way), it doesn't sound dated or stale. I find repeat listenings get more enjoyable each time. I'm still not sure who Fats Theus is, but the presence of Mr. Green, along with Idris Muhammad and Chuck Rainey make this an irresistible purchase.
Memphis Two-Step (Wounded Bird) - Herbie Mann; Larry Coryell [Performer] - Aud..

    1 of a great album
I like a lot of Herbie Mann's late '60's early '70's L.P.s, but this one kind of disappoints a little. The last 3 tracks(which comprised side 2 of the original vinyl), are exciting and fantastic. Tracks 1,2, & 4 are very ordinary and somewhat boring. Track 3 is worthwhile, if only for Larry Coryell's contribution. If you dig Herbie, you will enjoy this, even though there are some major dips in quality control.

    A Forgotten Gem!!
So glad to have this music in my possession!! A true masterpiece of '70's funk/rock, and something every fan of this genre NEEDS! A true 5 star collection. Grab it before it's too late!!
