Beautiful to look at, but mediocre sound

Had a pair for over a decade. Rebuilt because on both of the monoblocks, one of the boards lost capacitance and the resistors got hot. Used high quality parts for rebuild. Did Luxman recommended modification to be able to use KT88 tubes, because original tubes no longer available (story is that KT88 tubes were originally going to be sent with new amps, but Luxman marketing dept decided a newly developed tube would sell more amps. Problem is that this new tube was set to operate at its maximum threshold, and tubes would not last very long, but amp sounded good while they lasted (any tube amp will sound better when the tubes are run hot, till the tube fails). Anyway, these amps were very reliable after rebuild, but they were just OK, nothing special in the sound department. All my other tube amplifiers were more pleasurable to listen to . In time I sold these beautiful amps, and moved on. Yes, they are gorgeous to behold, but after many tube swaps using recommended tubes from other experienced users of these amps, I could not justify keeping them any longer.
