Original recordings from Gotham label
These are recordings made in the very early 1950's for Ballen Record Company in Philadelphia where Clara and the Famous Ward Singers lived at the time. They were issued on 78 rpms on the Gotham Label. Another Gotham hit, not included here, was "Surely God Is Able" but due to Clara's contract with Savoy and a lawsuit, Savoy was given the master to "Surely God Is Able" and so it was also issued on the Savoy label. This is to illustrate that this era of Clara's career exuded creativity and musical mastership. These recordings show Clara at her best in a wide range of musical settings with her best back up group and excellent musicians.
