Love My Skagen Ancher
I like this Skagen as much as others I have purchased in recent years, It is strikingly good looking in a minimalist sort of way. It is also extremely light, even with a stainless case and band. So light that I don't even notice it most of the time.
I used to wear a big stainless chronograph with a steel link bracelet, and it often felt like a brick tied to my wrist. Not to mention that it frayed the cuffs on numerous dress shirts. By comparison the 8mm thick Skagen Ancher lies close to my wrist without getting caught on everything I wear. And of course it looks good, with a classic understated simplicity.
OK, so it's not water resistant to 100 meters, but my tub isn't that deep! For everyday good looks and functionality this fits me just fine.

A great action shooter
1 personnes sur 1 ont jugé cet avis utile. I recently bought another one of these lenses to get a little more reach than my 18-70 zoom without having to change to a tele-zoom. This is a great walkabout lens, with enough range to cover situations that might occur at an event or just wandering around town.
Some people have maligned this lens for being a little less than perfectly sharp. But i find it can take quite sharp images if you keep it stopped down to f8 or f11. It has nice crisp color saturation and good contrast. On the down side it loses some sharpness wide open, so it's better at daytime action than lurking around in low light
This lens is not exactly a lightweight, but it balances nicely on my D80 with a nice heft. The autofocus is fast and the manual focus is only about 75 degrees from infinity down to 18 inches on the close end. The large zoom ring is a quarter turn from 24 out to 120mm, making framing quick and easy. Overall this is a easy lens to use for getting a quick shot.
I was worried about flare with such a large 72mm front glass so I bought a rubber lens hood, figuring it might be good bumper protection too. On a DX body the only time I have seen any vignetting is with the zoom under 30mm and the hood fully extended. Since this is a full frame lens the field of view on a DX body is reduced several degrees, so you can leave the hood extended more. Even without the hood flare isn't a problem unless you've got the sun in front of you.
This is a good lens to take if you only want to carry one. At under $200 on eBay it's a good deal on a budget too.

Nikkor 18-70mm f/3.5-4.5G AF-S DX - great lens
Let me add my praise to that from others - this lens is a great all around performer for the price. It's very sharp, with little noticeable distortion under most circumstance, and handles very easily on a medium weight body like my D80.
This is the first lens I bought after getting my D80 and having been disappointed with mediocre performance of the 28-200 I had. I find this one quite sharp throughout the focal range. Corners soften a little close up and wide open, but you could say that about any lens. At 18mm there is a little barrel distortion that is noticeable in architectural shots, but not enough to show up in anything else. It is quite easy to correct with a few clicks in Photoshop. This lens has a nice range for everyday shooting and portraits, and it can get quite close for taking tabletop pictures of little things to sell on eBay. Together with my 70-300 VR it covers a full range of photo needs.
The build quality of this lens is quite good for something with a lot of plastic in its construction. It has a metal mount and the focus and zoom controls are tight and smooth. The AF-S focus motor is very quick and quiet, and I like the manual focus override for tweaking fine focus without having to fiddle with the A/M switch. I've looked at the 18-135 and 18-105 in stores and, compared to this lens they both feel rather light and sloppy in their mechanisms.
The only (mild) disappointment I've had with this lens is the occasional urge to zoom in just little more without changing lenses. Sometimes 70mm isn't quite enough to zoom in on the action I want. I recently bought a nice 24-120 to satisfy that urge. While it can take some credibly sharp pictures at f8 or f11 it's overall image quality is not quite as good as the 18-70, and it's not even close at wider stops in low light. The extra reach is nice, but I would still reach for my 18-70 for more critical shots.
Overall the AF-S DX Nikkor 18-70mm f/3.5-4.5G is a real bargain at under $200 used on eBay. This lens can deliver professional quality images at a modest price.
