Top quality solid wood guitar for a very reasonable price
Top quality solid wood guitar. Sounds every bit as good as a Martin HD 28 for less than half the money. Maybe even a little better with the Adirondack top, which seems to give a little more low end than Sitka. However expect the Adirondack top to be coarser looking than Sitka, with some bear claw in it. The fit and finish on this guitar is excellent, the action on mine was tuned nicely out of the box, very low with no fret buzz all the way up the neck. I've had this guitar a couple months now and am very happy with it. I can't see myself buying another dreadnought unless I could afford a custom hand built one.

Washburn WP26SENS Parlor Acoustic Guitar in Natural Finish --

Very good mid range parlor guitar
This guitar is a bit overbuild, like most mid price range guitars. The cedar top is near 1/4 inch thick with heavy bracing, so it is not as responsive as more expensive, more lightly build guitars. Because of this it sounded rather flat with the light strings that came on it, but after reading recommendations for short scale small bodied guitars I tried a set of medium weight strings and they brought out a lot more complex tone and sustain, while still being easy to fret because of the short scale. I also replaced the plastic pegs with bone, which I think helped the sound also. The guitar comes with bone nut and saddle standard. Now it rings out with nice clear trebley sound on individual notes so is great for finger picking and blues lead runs. Like all parlor guitars, It lacks a little in the bass. It doesn't have the "woody" sound you get with an all solid wood guitar - it has a solid top but laminated sides and back -that's the main complaint I have about this guitar. It has excellent intonation and can be strummed as well, but just does sound near as good as a bigger bodied guitar for that. The fit and finish is mostly very good, unfortunately mine has a visual flaw, a very slight separation between the binding and top for about an inch, which got past quality control as it was sold to me as a number one, so if you buy one buy from a returnable source and check it over carefully when you get it. The flaw is so slight I missed it until the return period was over. Other than that the finish is great, a nice thin satin finish like you get on more expensive guitars. It has beautiful fake ivory inlays on the fretboard and headstock, and nice mother of pearl rosette, very classy, a guitar you want to hang in the living room to admire as a piece of art when not playing it. It has quality electronics discreetly hidden in the sound hole and sounds very good plugged in. Overall a very good guitar for the money, with the exception of the flaw on mine. It fretted beautifully right out of the box and I got the action down nice an low just tweaking the truss rod a little and sanding the bridge down 1/16 of an inch, and still frets great without a hint of buzz., so I didn't have to pay for a professional set up as you do for most guitars, probably just got lucky there. This guitar probably doesn't sound as good as a blueridge or eastman parlor for two or three times the money, or a martin for five times as much, but sounds very good if not great and its very pretty so I think its a good value at its price of around $ 400 for a casual player like me. I wish washburn would build this guitar with all solid wood instead of laminated sides, and a more lightly build, responsive top, I would happily pay more money for one. They do build an all solid wood, the model 314, 125th anniversary, and I tried it but don't care for the spruce top as I much prefer cedar for my fingerpicking style of play, also that guitar has a traditional 2" wide neck, too wide for me.
