Very nice, until it's not

I bought this for my son around mid May. It hasn't been 2 weeks & the toy already quit working. When you press the button to start the toy, it starts to sing & dance for a few seconds, then shuts down. Even if it is the batteries, there is an issue because I put brand new batteries in the toy when it arrived & they should definitely last longer than a few weeks.
