It protects your lens
It will afford some protection to your lens, however, the glass is highly reflective (not good) and transmission of light is poor. Spend a few extra quid, on something better if you can.

Best 3rd party filter .
I have been using these filters for years, they are excellent and you really can taste the difference. I always know when our filter is due a change,, when our dog stops drinking his water as much!
