I've been straightening my hair since I discovered Bio Ionic back in 2007 ( then it contained some harmful chemical specially for technicians which they have removed , you couldn't stand the odor) But nowadays the product is even better and has the same results because before you had to use some kind of special shampoo (not anymore). I have curly hair and I prefer it straight because at my age (I'm 54) I want to keep things simple and curly hair is beautiful but it needs lots of maintenance and products to keep the curls nice and conditioned.
