Just another bad remake of a ok movie
Well I had fond memories of the 80s version of this movie..Got them both on Blu Ray at the same time, to compare...In the new version there is a lot of jumping, and sliding, and hacking, and slashing. If you are looking for a mindless action flick that has little or no plot, and dialog that your 4 year old will enjoy,,..well its your money. I was sick at the time I got this, so I watched it twice.....IF anybody wants a slightly used copy please let me know.... As to comparing it to the first version...Well aside from the nude scenes that never seem to make it on TV it was also kind of a disappointment , but if I were giving stars I would give the old version about 2 1/2 and the new one maybe a 1.....out of a possible 5. The 2010 version must have cost several million bucks to make....Would rather have seen ... say some Patrick O'brian books made into another flick Owell Jim in Gold Bar
Patrick O'Brian's Navy: The Illustrated Companio... by O'Neill, Richard Hardback

Even if you have all the others this is a good one
I have all 21 of the O'brian series, Read through them at least once a year for past 10 years. Have the other 'companion' books and thought I was doing pretty well... This book has illustrations and photos and things that are very useful to a reader of these books. Even though it was written 20 years ago (well so were the books :) .That said it is good to keep the 'O'brian dictionary handy when reading this book to explain some of the terms.. Can be purchased at a reasonable price. So get one !!

A disapointing end
Hi: this is the very end of the Aubrey/Maturin series that many of us have been reading for over 20 years. It is pretty much what I expected with ONE VERY BIG exception. The book is dual printed with O'brian's handwritten text on the facing page to a printed text. HOWEVER because his typed notes ran out they continued the last several pages in O'brian's handwriting ONLY. I have really really lousy handwriting. My Chemistry Professor used to call it 'chicken scratches in the garbage'. O'brian's was worse then mine. I can not read the last 10 handwritten pages of the book. It would have been really nice if the publisher had included a printed version of those last 10 pages as to make them legible. It is sad that O'brian is gone, there is no one else out there that even comes close to his style, humor and grace of invention . Obrian's genius for dialog, and the way he presented complex situations is unique. One can read these books many times over and get more from them with each reading. If you are an O'brian fan, who loved the series, buy this book. It really makes a more satisfying conclusion then "Blue at the Mizzen" . Then try to find a cryptographer to translate the last 10 pages for you..Email me a copy..ok.... jimb.cac
