The MEDIO BALBOA, Affordable, Beautifully Minted, Artistically Rendered, and Historically Interesting
My purchase of the Medio Balboa (Half Balboa) was to pair it together with the Un Balboa (One Balboa) that I already owned (and that I have previously rated for ebay). The Medio Balboa that I purchased happened to be a "Proof" coin. Proof coins are manufactured separately and differently than coins meant for general circulation. Proof coins are made using special, polished coin blanks, under increased pressure and struck multiple times to insure a sharp, well-defined strike. My Medio Balboa is a gorgeous coin, with mirror-like surfaces. This coin, never having been in circulation, was free of any marks, stains, or other issues that might have made it less than pristine. Although it is not a particularly rare coin, it is not often seen in North America outside of coin collections. It is the perfect complement to my Un Balboa, and adds historical interest to my World Coin collection. Jack

BU War "NICKELS - Overlooked Treasure?
1 personnes sur 1 ont jugé cet avis utile. I was happy to find these two War "Nickels" at a reasonable price on ebay. The Jefferson Nickel series, in my opinion, is often looked upon as a collection for the beginning collector, with little interest among the more accomplished numismatists. I think that finding Jefferson Nickels dated from the era of WWII, in brilliant and uncirculated condition is a moment to be celebrated. This does not even address the fact that these nickels contain 35% pure silver. I believe there will come a time when such coins will not be so readily available. This is a great time to start, complete, or upgrade a Jefferson Nickel collection while excellent coins such as these are still priced very reasonably. Jack
