Excessively Campy for those who love it
1 personnes sur 1 ont jugé cet avis utile. And I do love campy. I bought it specifically because I do enjoy the author Michael Allred and all his works and wanted to see the filmed version of his comic. I sincerely doubt the enthusiasm his commentary describes. Comic fans, please note: according to the commentary, this movie was made before the G-Men From Hell storyline in Darkhorse. The comic version is significantly different.
Story wise, this is quite different from the Madman yarn, besides the obvious omission of Madman himself. Cheetahman, the red herring/deus machina background figure in the comic, turns out to be more of a lesser distraction in this role, sadly. Dr. Boiffard seems to be channeling Christopher Lloyd. For the most part, the characters truly look fantastic visually, the wardrobe, hair styling and casting is most commendable. And the music fit the feel, well.
Now what's wrong with it? Well sadly, just about everything else. Even if you weren't familiar with the comic line it was coming from, don't worry since it's very different from it anyway. The acting is exaggerated, and that's to be understood since the eponymous G-Men are intentionally cliched characters but that's not translating well at all. The story resolution isn't satisfying and for no reason, they lose the entertaining character of Gary Busey's Lt. Langdon.
As a bonus, the disc contains another Allred film, Astroesque. A no budget film made in a weekend that correlates to his Red Rocket 7 book, in particular, the spiritual aspects. I couldn't even watch past the first 10 minutes because of how bad it was.
I don't know if this will be an issue for others but my copy will not play on my DVD Drive on my computer. It played just fine on my DVD player (US region.

Not particularly tacky. Even after wipin...
Not particularly tacky. Even after wiping the back of the case with alcohol swabs, it comes off easily from just the body heat of my hand.
