X10 USB PC Receiver Module (CM19A) NEW

Not many options

If you need to interface with x10 rf remotes, motion sensors and window contact sensors, you do not have many options. 20 years ago there was a decent third party x10 receiver to rs-232 adapter, but it is no longer in production. So now you need to canibalise an x10 CM19A, a fire cracker or a TM751, which are produce using 1970' technology, which explains the "not good quality" review. This CM19A has no USB driver for recent OS, so I probed around and found the pin receiving the binary radio signal (one of the corner pins of the PIC chip). I then used a Raspberry pi PICO to decode the messages. If you intend to use this as is, you need a computer (or virtual machine) running windows XP! The CM19A has a much better receiving range than the other choices when you use a better antenna.

Performance slightly degade due to age, but works ok.

It's very old so some components have drifted away from their original values. This reduces the reception range, but ut is functional. There are more recent revision but when ordering a used unit, it's an unavoidable gamble.

Old revision

The item is in "brand new" condition and working well BUT, this is revision 2.2 which is known to have an over heating issue making the device die within a few months, or, if you are lucky, within 2 years. Even 2 years is not great. Only PLM V 2.3 and higher have that issue fixed :( I purchased it as a backup unit, but if/when I start using it, it will not be with confidence.
