A Masterpiece rarely heard or given!
Joan Sutherland has never sung more stirringly. The soprano role is demanding in the extreme. Little wonder this splendid opera is rarely given, for few sopranos walking the boards today can do justice to the demands of the role rendered by Sutherland.

Ritorno Del Marinaio translates to something like Return of the Sailor. Appropriate!
Von Suppe's music at times could readily be taken for that of Johann Strauss, which is not a criticism....just a fact. I found the music pleasant...a good companion while compelled to spend too much time in the car doing errands. If you enjoy the lighter end of grand opera, you will surely find this work "interesting." I'm glad I purchased the opera!

The Nightmare Before Christmas
1 personnes sur 1 ont jugé cet avis utile. There's an appealing quirkiness here that instantly grips the viewer. The animation is creamy smooth--and original in the extreme. The musical score
has a uniqueness that elevates it from others of this genre. In point of fact,
it might well be considered a pop opera, as the story-line progresses nearly entirely in vocal form. If one were pressed to characterize The Nightmare Before Christmas in a single word, it would be "unique." In the final analysis, the film's totality is greater than the sum of its parts. --Geo. M.
