Capstone to a History of Railroads
O.S. Nock was one of the premier British authors on all topics involving railroads. His works span everything from detailed explanations of the engineering triumphs of locomotive constructors to the intricacies of signal system used on lines in various countries in Europe and North America. From 1965 through 1975 he authored a series of books for the Blandford Press, "Railways of the World in Colour." This was aimed at a more popular audience and as a whole provides a wonderful overview of the beginnings, development, and significance of railroads around the world. This volume, the eighth, completes the series. From a school-age young person who wishes to get an introduction to the history of railroads to someone who might be described as a more serious "train watcher," there is something for anyone with an interest in this story. The illustrations are the principle draw, allowing a reader to follow the steady developments and occasional technological leaps in both locomotives as well as the rolling stock. It is a shame that there are relatively few such endeavors being published today, but all eight books in the series do come up with some regularity on eBay. They are well worth getting, and for that person you know who is a railroad buff they would make a wonderful gift.

A very fine recording of music from the later 1500s - early 1600s. If you enjoy early music this will be a great addition to a music library, and if you are just interested in what consort music of this time is like, this recording would make for a wonderful introduction.
