Dream Theater continues to impress.....

Honestly, I can't understand why this album is such an underdog in the Dream Theater catalog. Yes, it is definitely a different sound for the band after their heavy & well crafted first 2 albums ('Images and Words' & 'Awake'), but really each & every Dream Theater album is unique & never sounds like the one that preceded it or after. What makes 'Falling into Infinity' stand out is that Dream Theater used a more "alternative" & raw sound this time around but still, it's as heavy & at the same time beautiful as ANY Dream Theater album. I think hands down the first 2 albums by this band is their best work, but 'Falling...' is still an album that shouldn't be overlooked especially if you are a fan of metal in most forms. Stand out tracks are "New Millenium," "You Not Me," "Burning My Soul," "Hell's Kitchen," & "Trial of Tears." *As a side note, "Hell's Kitchen" is an instrumental & in my opinion is one of the greatest, most beautiful pieces of music I've ever heard.

Straight forward party rock....

This appears to be a comeback CD for Slaughter as they released only a couple of albums in the early 90s & by 1995 they already had a best of album & hadn't released a CD in 3 years. For those who are fans of the "hair bands" from the 80s, these guys are in the same league but started getting noticed when the scene changed & MTV started playing alternative music instead leaving bands like Slaughter in the dust; this probably explains why the band wasn't around much & already put out a greatest hits CD. However, 'Fear no Evil' doesn't sound like their previous works...it still has that fun eighites hair metal vibe, but it's more straight forward rock & very uplifting as well. It's definitely a "groovy" type of album if you just want something to chill out to.

Evergrey not afraid to stretch it's boundaries...

If you are new to Evergrey & you hear any 1 of their albums you might think they are 1 form of metal but they tend to cross another musical boundary as each album is released. They are considered "progressive" more than anything, but they also sometimes sound like a power metal band & even a thrash band (first few albums.) On this album they return to more of their progressive side (the album before sounded power metalish) & they show that they can do just about anything. I just continue to be amazed at how a band like Evergrey continues to put out quality music each & EVERY time! Not only is each CD heavy (especially the first few albums) but each one is well produced & you experience everything from heavy crushing music to the most calming & beautiful music to hit the ears. I know I was supposed to review this album in detail but I rambled long enough, so I will say if you are looking for a great progressive album then this one is worth every penny; but I wouldn't hesitate to try every album from this band if you are a well rounded metal-head!
