The Scarce Silver Peso of Trujillo
The Commemorative 1955p Dominican Republic silver Peso has long been an under-rated coin which has recently been gaining recognition among Collectors. A two coin set of 1955 commemorative coins were minted for the 25th anniversary of Rafael Trujillo's reign. These consisted of a gold 30 peso (33,000 minted) and a silver one peso, both showing him in profile. 50,000 of the silver one peso coins were produced and issued into circulation, but after Trujillo was assassinated in 1961 an estimated 32,550 were recalled and melted down, leaving approximately 17,450.
Examples in higher-grade Mint State condition are rare and sought after. Depending on 'Grade' and 'Condition', prices have been ranging between the low to mid $20's for the lowest grade examples up to approximately $470.00 for a Gem Brilliant Uncirculated example. As they gain in popularity and the higher grade examples disappear into private collections, their value should increase.
I was fortunate to have included in the sixteen (16) Trujillo silver Pesos I acquired... Ten (10) in Mint State condition of which three (3) are very high grade examples, three (3) in Almost Uncirculated condition, and the three (3) remaining ones in Very Fine to Extra Fine condition. I will be giving most of them away to family members as they are part of my family's History.. Rafael Trujillo was Best Man at my Sister's wedding which was held in the Presidential Palace.

'Button' Batteries
These small alkaline batteries are very durable. They have lasted me an unusually long time in some of my animated battery-operated collectibles. They can also be used as replacements in many of the older or discontinued items... a great plus!
