Very solid system that arguably stands up to modern handhelds.
The Gameboy Advance was the first game console I ever owned, so I'll openly acknowledge my bias upfront. However, I do still think that the AGS-101 is a very good handheld system even by the standards of gaming in 2018. While the biggest weakness of past models of the Gameboy was the screen, the AGS-101 is backlit. The image is sharp and the colors pop even on the lower brightness setting.
I also really love the fact that it's backward compatible over three generations of games. You can play original Gameboy, Gameboy Color, and Gameboy Advance games on it. That's over a decade of games available.
My one minor complaint about the Gameboy SP, both the AGS-101 and its predecessor, the AGS-001, is the lack of a headphone jack. This is inconvenient more than anything else, however, it is very annoying for car rides or general traveling when you want to listen to a game, but others around you wouldn't appreciate hearing what you hear.
All in all, the AGS-101 is a very solid system that surprisingly isn't dwarfed by more modern handheld systems.

A fun challenge if you don't know Japanese!
I've played through the first generation Pokemon games in English a few times. I'm not sure what compelled me to get Japanese Green Version, but I did. I remember my brother importing the Japanese versions of the DS games and playing them without knowing much Japanese. This is because there was more English built into the games, you could use the English alphabet, for example. Not the case with this game. However, since I know the games pretty well, I'm thinking of it as a bit of a challenge to myself. The most difficult part is the moves. You really need to know what moves your pokemon learn at each level so you don't replace Hyper Beam with say Splash.

Still fun to play.
5 personnes sur 5 ont jugé cet avis utile. The Nintendo Gameboy was by no means an example of the most powerful handheld even during its prime in the early 90s. Its competitors had front-lit or back-lit screens and were in color. What the Gameboy did, however, was provide great games. It's still surprising to me that I can get so engaged in a game like Link's Awakening or Pokemon Red while playing them on a grey brick with a reflective screen that has 4 shades of green. The Gameboy is still fun to play in 2018, the age of backlights, pocket computers, and HD gaming with photo-realistic graphics.
