River-Horse: A Voyage Across America

"River-Horse", A book written by the fellow that wrote "Blue Highways".

I was very interested in how the author would do this book in comparison to Blue Highways. He does a very good job of showing the trials, tribulations and thrills of traveling across the interior of America by boat. Because he is on a boat, you do not get to see as much of the interactions with people along the way but there is some of that still. As with Blue Highways, you can follow his journey by map, but with Google Maps it is certainly easier. You can spot the various cities, bends, wide and narrow areas of the river quickly and easily. Most maps would not give you the detail required to follow the trip. If you like to be out and about in this big country of ours, this is a good book to read when you can't get out there. It will make you interested in those bitty places that you would never know about. It also tells a lot about our history along the rivers as well as The Lewis and Clark Expedition.
