Saved my bacon

This backplane saved my bacon. I bought a surplus C2100 FS12-TY server from eBay to use as a FreeNAS server, and loaded it up with 72GB of RAM and faster CPUs. As with all of the FS12-TY "cloud special" variants of the C2100, it's often a mixed bag of how they are put together. My particular unit had a 9NXC7 SAS expander backplane. Tried different cables, playing with the jumpers, and two or three different SAS HBA cards. The HBAs and OS would still not recognize any SAS or SATA drive. There is very very little support information for these servers and backplanes. Fortunately I stumbled across a couple of forum threads where I learned of the different backplane options for the C2100 series. I decided to try this KFF57 backplane, which is a 1:1 SAS channel:disk arrangement, as opposed to the "switching" SAS expander backplane. Installing the KFF57 was a breeze, and after hooking it up to a couple of 8 channel SAS HBAs wit my SFF-8087 cables, the OS was finally able to recognize and use my disks.

Works

It fits on the SAS 3080X-R but you have to trim the onboard LED 90-degree plastic optics to fit against the bracket. I thought maybe the pre-drilled holes would match up with the lights but they don't. Only reason it's not 5 starts. Otherwise it works great to convert your low-profile card to a normal-profile server.
