Watch The series before reading the book...
I made the mistake of reading the book first so that when I started watching the series, I was initially disappointed that the movie was totally different. The characters having the same names and the fact there was a dome over a town was the similarity. Once I let go of the book and stopped trying to match the goings on with the book, the series became fantastic. I absolutely loved it. It is one that you don't want to end. I can't even imagine why they cancelled the series. They did leave the ending so that there is potential for continuation. You won't be sorry if you purchase the series...just don't read the book, first. The series is actually wayyyyyyy better than the book.
