Falcon (DVD, 2-Disc Set) Marton Csokas Based on Books by Robert Wilson LNC
    28 juil. 2016
    Superb, dark, complex thrillers
First-rate performances, direction and design bring Robert Wilson's characters gratifyingly to life. Episode 1 is totally faithful to the first book (of 3) in the series, but the second installment is an original story by another writer that extends the narrative in a direction that differs from Wilson's, while maintaining his tone and momentum but sacrificing clarity of the storyline. One would have hoped the producers had stuck to the 3 original tales, and it's a shame they abandoned the project after only this pair of entries, since they are superbly well made. Martin Csokas in particular is captivating in the role of Javier Falcon, a personification worth being able to see way more of.

Entertaining and important early works by an authentic American original.
I saw several of these titles as a grad film student at NYU while "Marty" was still there, and a student of Haig Manoogian, who shook his head in amazement at what Marty was able to pull off production-wise. 'Italian-American' (which I first saw at the NY Film Festival) is dedicated to him. Scorcese was already working on his feature 'I Hear You Knocking' while most of the rest of us were still coming to grips with the basics of editing. It's great to have these early works gathered together; in a way they're part of my own history.
