Illustrated Nostalgia
First, the reason I bought it (In a word, nostalgia, My dad used to recite this poem to my siblings and me -- often as a bedtime story! Years later, he typed a copy so we could read it to our kids. A few weeks ago, we were talking over stories and poems we remembered as kids (we're all in our 60's now), and I decided to see if I could find it in book form (I obviously did) and plan to give it to my daughters for Father's Day (that's the way I do things). They can decide if they want to read it to their children!
NOW for the review: The flaps to open are fun, but I never thought about illustrations! Jim DOES get eaten by a lion, so....! Maybe it was better when Dad recited it, and would basically be tickling us when he got to "Just imagine how it feels / When first your toes and then your heels / ... Are slowly eaten, bit by bit."
Just keep that in mind!
