Good Quality Lightweight & Low-Profile Ball Head at a Reasonable Price
As always, you get what you pay for (or rather, you don't get what you don't pay for). This is a high-quality, stable head, with a lot of adjustments, but no redundant knobs. It's lower profile than most other ball heads I've seen (helps with stability), and very lightweight. Fit & finish seem very good, and ball seems to be adequately round for the job (when half-way tightened, it doesn't go loose then tight with ball movement). Sure you could spend a lot more money on a better ball head (Read Kirk, Really Right Stuff, Gitzo, or Bogen), but I don't think they would meet my (hobbyist) needs any better. So, for the price, I'm giving it 5 stars, and I expect it will last me for a good long while. However, I don't know if it would hold up to everyday professional use.

Hard to find parts at a great price
These replacement parts are very hard to find. I'm basing my 5 stars on availability and price.
The pin brackets are the part of the tripod spreader assembly that is most likely to need replacing. They either break when the tripod legs are closed asymmetrically one too many times or get lost in the grass when the tripod is opened too forcefully and the screws are yanked out of the tripod leg.
These pin brackets are ~equivalent to the ones that I've seen on astronomical tripods. They are plastic, so not indestructable, but they are good enough quality, and the price is certainly right. I bought two sets of 6. One is to outfit a set of legs I bought that had the spreader but no pin brackets, plus spare set 'just in case' any of the above-mentioned mishaps occur.
The holes for the pins are a perfect fit for an M4 machine screw. So I bought some M4 threaded studs and some other hardware (locknuts, washers, & dowel pins) to make up some captive pins for the spreader arms. The tiny black screws that came with these are meant for aluminum tripods, so I got some longer (#6?) screws to mount these pin brackets to my wood tripod. This extra hardware (metric/stainless) cost more than the pin brackets, but I know it will make for a solid, long-lasting installation. See photo.
