Another stalwart Jimmy Stewart vehicle
A Warner Brothers love letter to the J. Edgar Hoover and his boys, THE FBI STORY is still excellent story telling. It chronicles the growth of the FBI from it's humble beginnings via career agent, James Stewart, as he works his way thru 1930s gangsters and hoodlums, WWII espionage and 1950s subversives. Stewart receives able support from loving wife, Vera Miles and friend and fellow agent Murray Hamilton. Needless to say, illegal wire-taps and J.Edgar Hoover's racy personal life are not in the script.

"Well, I'll be a blue-nosed gopher!"
I highly recommend this set. If you're like me, you never saw ALL of the episodes anyway so it's abut time you did. Included are a nice intro and background from the always interesting, and fellow baby-boomer, Leonard Maltin, plus, the orignal complete MICKEY MOUSE CLUB show that included the preview for SPIN & MARTY. By the time I was watching the show, it was already in a half-hour format so I was surprised to discover that the first 2 seasons, including the show included on these DVDs, was originally an hour long! As for the serial itself, for being 50+, I think SPIN AND MARTY still holds up quite well, thank you, so I say "Saddle Up, Boys!" Caveat Emptor: Keep in mind that this review comes from someone who is basically a 10 year old trapped in a the body of a 50-something who, while having a lovely wife and daughter, still plays with trains and treasures his old Milton Bradley and Parker Brothers board games.

Great cast: Kirk Douglas, Sir Laurence Olivier, Jean Simmons, Tony Curtis,
Charles Laughton, Peter Ustinov, Herbert Lom, John Ireland, Woody Strode and a host of other recognizable faces.
Great Director: Stanley Kubrick.
Great Story: Slaves fighting for their freedom against the tyranny of decadent Empire, Roman political intrigue and the rise of the dictator and a compelling love story thrown in for good measure.
Wonderful extras (interviews, period promotional features) included in this special edition.
One of the last of the true Hollywood "Epic" productions with a literal "cast of thousands". If you maintain any kind video library of classic films, this is a "must have".
