Excellent book for the beginniner writer (sceen or not)

I had to buy this book for class. Even though I'm new to the screenwriting world this book has helped me thus far in understanding how to write a screenplay. And while I'm sure there are more specific books for general writers out there this book touches on even the basics of creating, for example, good characters not to mention the other topics that are basic to all forms of story-creating.
